St Lucia Food and Rum Festival 2018
St Lucia’s Food and Rum Festival takes place from January 12th- 14th 2018.
This will be the first time the Festival has taken place since 2006, and it’s being billed as “a gastronomic event to attract the best chefs, wine connoisseurs, rum fanatics and food critiques from the Caribbean and internationally.
“Inspired in part by the outstanding achievements of Chefs Nina Compton and Doran Payne, this unique event promotes Saint Lucian and other Caribbean rums, restaurants, chefs, and regionally manufactured food and drink products to a regional and international audience”.
The two-day event is being headlined by well-respected and critically-acclaimed celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, who was born in Ethiopia but raised in Sweden, and is head chef of Red Rooster in Harlem, New York.
One anticipated highlight of the festival will undoubtedly be Samuelsson’s St Lucian version of the meal he created for the first state dinner of former US President Barack Obama in 2009. This truly memorable dinner can be experienced for $120 (US).
Other features of the festival will include “food demonstrations, rum tasting, wine tasting, gastronomic dinners and community culinary experiences, all accompanied by musical and other artistic performances by young artists from Saint Lucia”.
It will also incorporate the Caribbean Rum Awards, which will see almost 200 different contenders from around the Caribbean and the world competing for honours, including ‘Rum of the Year’.
The event will culminate with a concert featuring Freddie Jackson on St Lucia’s historic Pigeon Island National Landmark.
The festival is being presented as part of ‘Soleil Saint Lucia Summer Festival 2018’ which also encompasses the island’s Jazz Festival, Roots and Soul Festival, Arts and Heritage Festival and the St Lucia Carnival.
