The annual Pineapple Festival on Eleuthera is a celebration of the island’s pineapple farming tradition.
This year’s festival will run from 31 May to 2 June at the Homecoming Site in Gregory Town. Locals and visitors come together to enjoy all things pineapple and honour Eleuthera’s pineapple farmers for their contribution to the community.
There will be a host of fun pineapple-themed activities to watch and participate in. Chow down on juicy pineapples in the pineapple eating contest, or watch the pineapple cooking contest and the plaiting of the pineapple pole. The Little Miss Pineapple Princess Pageant and the 40-mile Pineapple Cycling Classic are key events on the schedule.
On Sunday, 2 June, the annual Pineapple Fest Triathlon sees the fittest of the fit swim, cycle and run towards the finish line.
Throughout the festival patrons can enjoy live entertainment, beverages, food, and treats.
Pineapples are spiky bundles of goodness. These juicy, sweet fruits are absolute nutrient powerhouses rich in vitamins A and C and minerals such as calcium and manganese. Pineapples are also packed with the enzyme bromelain which has both anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It’s not surprising that people really love this fruit, and the people of Eleuthera love pineapples most of all.
