Meadowrest Memorial Gardens…A place to rest peacefully

Meadowrest Memorial Gardens

“Whatever you do, do well” is the guiding philosophy of Mr.LeRoi Lorde JP, Managing Director of Meadowrest Memorial Gardens since 1996.

Born in Barbados, he came to Jamaica in 1956 on a scholarship to the University of the West Indies. His study of Latin prepared him for his first job as a teacher at Wolmers and then a part-time lecturer at UWI Mona. He later studied Politics, Government and Economics at Oxford University and attended courses at the World Bank, Irish Management Institute and in the Netherlands..Mr.Lorde served in the public sector and acted as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and was Managing Director of Jamaica Nutrition Holdings. On joining the private sector he served as Executive Director firstly of the Jamaican Institute of Management and later of the Jamaica Manufacturers Association.

Mr.Lorde shared that Meadowrest had many teething pains initially, but he was resolute in his vision of ensuring that Meadowrest focused on customer satisfaction and grief counselling ,worked with the community and became viable. Since 2003 Meadowrest has been recognizing the contribution of the funeral homes with which it does business, by hosting an Annual Funeral Directors Appreciation Brunch usually in April. This event has attracted many dignitaries as guest speakers on issues relevant to the funeral sector.

A member and former elder of Meadowbrook United Church where Meadowrest was conceived, a Senator of Junior Chamber International and a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary, community service and a healthy family life are extremely important to Mr.Lorde. Married to a charming Jamaican in 1961, the union has produced two sons. With an eye for detail, he is often characterized as a man who speaks his mind. He is a cricket fan and a free mason.
